Manchester United’s up and down season continued on Saturday night as they lost 1-0 to Newcastle which could have been a lot more. In a first half where Newcastle dominated with 14 shots, Manchester United were not at the races.

Everything was looking rosy last week as Manchester United put in a 3-0 over Everton at Goodison Park and then led in Turkey, But Onana in goal, plus some naive defending meant they suffered a disappointing end.
Finishing in the ‘Top4’ is key for Manchester United and although recent form as moved them up the table, they are not convincing by any means. Marcus Rashford needs to find his goalscoring form of last year and Hoijlund must take his Champions League form into the Premier League.
Defensively Manchester United have improved, but if they are not scoring, then it becomes a worry.
Newcastle have beaten both these sides at home in the past two weeks and a 4-1 win over Chelsea was then followed up by a 1-0 win over Manchester United, (which could have been 4).
Under the lights at Old Trafford, Manchester United will want a reaction from their players. Chelsea are in transition and Pochetino’s side can’t be trusted at home or away.
They put in a top performance to draw 4-4 with Man City, then lose to Newcastle convincingly. A big win over Spurs was helped by two sendings off, so Chelsea must now regroup and look to put in a better away performance here.
With both sides not convincing it may play out a tight affair and one in which the home side may come out on top.

Manchester United just can’t put in a 90 minute performance of top football. They seem to play in patches and this is causing them to suffer in games.
After their 1-0 loss at Newcastle, they do have an extra days’ recovery than Chelsea and this may just be enough to get all three points, but don’t think this is one for the purists as the home side could grind out a low scoring win.
