Champions League: Newcastle v Borussia Dortmund – Wed 25th October – 8pm

Newcastle United have started their Champions League campaign in brilliant style, which a creditable 0-0 draw away at AC Milan and then a superb 4-1 win over Paris Saint Germain.

The atmosphere was electric at St James’ Park on the opening home game for Newcastle in the Champions League and they can continue their unbeaten form as they welcome Borussia Dortmund.

Newcastle comfortably disposed of PSG in their 4-1 win and Almiron opened the scoring after 17 minutes. A Dan Burn goal before the break ensured The Toon went into half time with super confidence. 2nd half goals by Longstaff and Schar sent shockwaves through Europe as the mighty PSG with Kylian Mbappe were well beaten.

Borussia Dortmund are bottom of the group as we go into match day 3 as they lost 2-0 at PSG on match day one and then drew 0-0 at home to AC Milan. With no goals scored so far, this has been a big problem for Dortmund domestically as well and as they head to Newcastle, they are very likely going to have to score to come away with anything.

Newcastle are outstanding at home and bar a crazy last few minutes at home to Liverpool, they are scoring for fun and after netting 4 against PSG, they will come out the blocks and look to blow Dortmund away.

A lack of Champions League experience and complacency may well be the only things to stop Newcastle as the opening home game was always going to bring a huge roar from the home crowd, and Newcastle can’t think for one minute that Dortmund are going to roll over for them, so they will have to earn their goals.

With a lot of fire power and pace, Newcastle can cause Dortmund a lot of trouble in this game and Almiron, Izak, Longstaff and Gordon are all forward thinking players, who play on the front foot, so expect another fast start on match day 3 for Newcastle.

Dortmund are massively missing Jude Bellingham who is hitting it up in Madrid and will need some of their players to step up to the plate. The last game loss in Bundesliga last season to enable Munich to win the League is still haunting them and once they get over this, they can rebuild and once again challenge.

However, Newcastle are enjoying their time back in the Champions League and a win here will give them a huge shout of qualifying for the knock out stages.

Punters Pub Best Bet

Newcastle are just odds on at ⅘ to beat Dortmund, but the stats suggest this could well be a comfortably evening for The Geordies. Dortmund kept a clean sheet at home to AC Milan, so will come to Newcastle looking to keep it tight.

However, with a huge crowd and a team who like to play quickly and come out the blocks, Newcastle may well score early and like against PSG, deliver a performance to savor.

Therefore our punters.pub bet of the day is in the half time / full time market and our selection is Newcastle half time, Newcastle full time at 2/1 with 888Sport.
