English Premier League – Crystal Palace v Arsenal – Monday 21st August

This match was the opening game of last season where Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners and then set off on a long unbeaten run to propel them to the top of the table for most of the season. That impressive start helped confidence as The Gunners started the season well away from home.

This year Selhurst Park is once again the first away match for Arsenal and they will have to be as strong defensively as they were then as Palace are always a team to watch when they play in front of their own fans.

You have to earn the right to play when you face Crystal Palace and with new signing Declan Rice alongside Thomas Partey, Arsenal have the foundation to dominate possession. With Martin Odegaard as well, Arsenal will look to start well in the game.

The opening game of the new season saw a 2-1 win for Arsenal with a brilliant Saka goal and a typical finish from Nketiah. Arsenal did drop off 2nd half to let Nottingham Forest into the game, so will have to be on their guard to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

A cruel injury to Timber was a sour note to come out of the game for Arsenal, so they are going to have to change their starting line up against Crystal Palace.

For Crystal Palace, a 1-0 away win over newly promoted Sheffield United was a perfect way to start the season. A clean sheet and a polished performance saw Roy Hodgson’s men enjoy a nice afternoon in Sheffield. Edouard scored the all important goal for Palace who recorded a lively 28 shots on goal with 8 on target, so will be looking to the likes fo Eze to put in a big performance to look to cause Arsenal problems.

With Michael Olise set for Chelsea, Jordan Ayew got a start on the right in the opening game and got the assist for the winning goal. He has caused Arsenal problems in the past so will be ready to pounce on any mistakes made by the Gunners.

Arsenal should be able to cope with the pressure and with their fire power of Martinelli, Saka and Nketiah, do enough to win the game. Should they not be able to be the difference then Smith-Rose and Trossard are valuable players to come off the bench and be influential in the 2nd half of the game.
