The PGA Tour heads to Ohio for The Memorial Tournament this week and the big guns are once again lining up to win the $3 Million prize. Scottie Scheffler is performing so consistently this year with a tied 3rd last week at Charles Schwab challenge, then tied 2nd in the PGA Championship, then Tied 5th in Byron Nelson. This is some performance from the world’s No 1 and he is once again favourite at 13/2 generally available.
This Jack Nicklaus course is a tough test which will challenge all the top golfers this week as straight drives are needed, with an excellent short game as well with excellent accuracy. The winner this week will also have to be spot on with their putting game given the greens will be tough to read given the nature of the course.
A player we have tipped in previous weeks is a player to watch this week as Patrick Cantlay. Winner at this course in 2019 and 2021, Cantlay is 10/1 to land a third title in 5 years. Cantlay is again another player who has shown a lot of consistency this year, but his putter has let him down at crucial occasions.
John Rahm is 2nd favourite to win here and the winner in 2020. Rahm is one to follow this week for sure after his Masters win earlier this season and he is well rested and has picked and chose his activity, so comes in fresh this week.
Rory Mcllory and Xander Schaufelle are 14/1 generally in the betting and with Mcllroy not in good form, he is one to pass this week and Schaufelle went to close at Wells Fargo finishing runner up, he may well be in the running come the final day.
Others to note are runner up from 2021 Colin Morikawa, who is one of the most accurate players on the tour. 25/1 with Unibet playing 6 places, he is definitely one at a bigger price who can be in the mix on Sunday. Finally, Hideki Matsuyama is 35/1 with Bet365 and another hugely accurate player and one who has gone under the radar. Winner in 2014 and once his A game is on, he is tough to stop.
Scottie Scheffler | 13/2 Bet365 |
John Rahm | 15/2 Coral |
Patrick Cantlay | 10/1 with William Hill |
Rory Mcllroy | 14/1 Bet365 |
Xander Schaufele | 14/1 Bet365 |
Viktor Hovland | 20/1 Paddy Power |
Colin Morikawa | 25/1 William Hill |
John Rahm comes into this tournament fresh and in great form. He won the Masters this year and has previously won this event so knows the course well and ready to secure another title to a brilliant year so far. Expect Rahm to be in the mix at the business end.
Being one of the most accurate players on the PGA Tour will give Morikawa a great chance of challenging for the title this week at The Memorial Tournament. Morikawa is due a big performance and this is a great chance for him to do so.
