Eddie Howe’s men are now playing three games a week and with Premier League, Champions League and now Carabao Cup games coming up fast, this is the real test for them.
A 8-0 demolition over Sheffield United on Sunday will give them huge confidence this midweek as they face the Champions, but you can never underestimate Man City. Their 2nd string side will have plenty of quality in and the rotation Pep is doing is working a treat.
Alvarez will likely continue to play and Phillips is also likely to get a run out from the start in this one. Rodri will be missing through suspension, but Rico Lewis, Nathan Ake and Jack Grealish are all expected to start in this one.
With the games mounting up for Newcastle, Eddie Howe has a dilemma whether to field a very strong team in this one as with a big weekend Premier League game coming up and then the Champions League again, it is a fine juggling act.
However, any slight change in the quality of Newcastle, can hand Man City the advantage as we know how Pep Guardiola’s side will play and this will be total football with ruthlessness in front of goal.
