AC Milan v Inter Milan – Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Wed 10 May

Are we seeing the rise again of Italian football as both Milan sides face off in the Champions League semi-final?

AC Milan navigated their way to this stage via knock-out wins over Tottenham and Napoli, while their rivals Inter came through both Portuguese sides Porto and Benfica to reach this stage.

AC Milan’s impressive performance against Napoli will give them a massive confidence boost they can overcome their rivals as many pundits were predicting the new SerieA champions to also reach the Champions League final.

AC Milan will rely on Olivier Giroud to lead the line for them with Bennacer to be the one to pounce, should he get the chance to score. Defensively Timouri has been excellent for them and they will be looking to give nothing away cheap as they look to get back to their first Champions League final for over a decade.

Inter Milan come into this in better form domestically following a 2-0 win over AS rona, 6-0 demolition away at Verona and a 3-1 home win over Lazio. Offensively Inter are full of confidence and will be looking to start on the front foot in the semi-final to catch AC Milan off guard.

Latauro Marinez and Romelu Lukaku are the key target men for Inter Milan, though if they don’t manage to make it count, then they could call on veteran striker Dzeko for a goal. Impressive Barella is one to watch in this one as the 26 year old Italian will look to continue his fine recent Champions League scoring form, having scored in both quarter-final matches over Benfica.

The performance in Lisbon shocked many pundits as Inter Milan outgunned Benfica and put the tie to bed in the first leg. Clinical finishing and some poor defending enabled Inter to come through the tie comfortably.

Traditionally when Italian sides meet in the Champions League these matches are tight affairs and when two rivals clash, we’re likely to see this being a cagey set of matches. Defences are likely to be on top, and the experience of Giroud and Dzeko could be crucial to the deadlog being broke in the first leg.

The atmosphere is set to be electric as Italian rivals clash for a chance to be in the Champions League final and expect a piece of magic to be the difference over the two legs.
