England have cruised through to the semi-final of the U21 European Championships and in doing so have not conceded a goal. Three wins in the group stages, one of them over Wednesday’s opponents Israel, saw England top the group in style.
A 1-0 quarter-final win over Portugal was pretty convincing with Anthony Gordon of Newcastle scoring the winning goal.
In the group stages England opened with a 2-0 win over Czech Republic with goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Jacob Ramsey. Both players have really impressed during the tournament and are in with a shout of player of the tournament should they continue their impressive form in the semi-final and final, should England win.
Following the opening win, England faced Israel, who they come up against in the semi-finals. Goals from Emile Smith Rose and Anthony Gordon saw Lee Carsley’s men ease to a comfortable win with England having 60% of the possession and only allowing one shot on target in the game.
Finally, a 2-0 win over Germany in the group stage with goals from Cameron Archer and Harvery Elliott, saw England eliminate Germany and these two quick goals inside the opening 25 minutes showed that this England side are playing with massive confidence.
Israel have done so well to reach the semi-final stage and came through a penalty shoot out win over Georgia in the quarter finals. In the group stage an all important win over Czech Republic saw Israel qualify in 2nd place, following their 1-1 draw against Germany in the opening game.
For England, they have such a strong squad and with players playing regularly in the Premier League against the best in the world, they are putting in some dominant displays and playing with a lot of confidence. Anthony Gordon and Morgan Gibbs White have impressed so far, as has Emile Smith Rowe and Jacob Ramsey.
With Curtis Jones and Chelsea’s Noni Madueke in midfield, they have talent from the top sides in the Premier League which is proving too much for the opposition.
England haven’t let in a goal and they should find a way through this Israel side to reach the final.
