All eyes will be on Ascot on Saturday as the King George VU & QEII Stakes is the big Group 1 race for punters to look to find a winner.
This is a highly competitive race as Aiden O’Brian is set to declare Auguste Rodin in the race, which automatically puts her as favourite. Winner of The Derby at Epsom in June, Ryan Moore will once again team up with Auguste Rodin to land another major race.
After disappointing in 2,000 Guineas in May, there were some doubts of the stamina of Auguste Rodin, but connections were hugely confident she could run well given her breeding line suggested. Ryan Moore rode the perfect race and Aidan O’Brien had another Derby winner and was fully justified in the preparations.
The King George VI & QEII Stakes race is just under the Derby distance, so this will be no issue for Augusta Rodin, the only issue is the course, which will be new to the horse, so Ryan Moore will have to ride a tactical race to let Auguste Rodin come into the home straight well.
Winner of the 2022 renewal Pyledriver is 6/1 with William Hill to repeat the success of last year and William Muir & Chris Grassick’s horse is well regarded. Winner of the Hardwicke stake at Royal Ascot this year, Pyledriver once again showed how much the horse enjoys the Ascot circuit and will relish the chance to come up against Auguste Rodin and Emily Upjohn.
Hukum at 6/1 with Bet365 is a horse who likes Ascot and will be one to watch as the race approaches. Winner of the Cumberland Lodge stakes in October 2021 over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs Hukum has been seen mainly in Meydan since, however beat Pyledriver to win the Coronation Cup at Epsom last June.
The last run for Hukum came earlier this year at Sandown, winning the Brigadier Gerrard Stakes, beating plenty of quality horses that day.
Auguste Rodin though is the most interesting horse in the race and question marks reign over how the horse will enjoy the track at Ascot, plus coming up against older horses, who, in Hukum’s case, will come into the race fresher.
Auguste Rodin | 7/2 William Hill |
King of Steel | 7/2 William Hill |
Emily Upjohn | 4/1 William Hill |
Hukum | 4/1 Coral |
Pyledriver | 6/1 William Hill |
This race is very competitive as plenty will believe they have chances and with such a quality field, it’s not surprising it’s difficult to see a clear favourite at this stage.
Auguste Rodin has to be respected after winning the English and Irish Derby, however with no run at Ascot, plus those two tough races, others are preferred.
Our preference and Punters.pub bet of the day is to take Hukum at 4/1 Coral. Coming in fresh after a win at Epsom earlier this year, Hukum likes the track at Ascot and can run a big race
