Betfred are the new sponsors of the Oaks and Derby this year and we have a terrific field for the Oaks renewal on Friday 2nd June. Aidan O’Brien has the short priced favourite Savethelastdance with odds of 5/4 with William Hill.
Following the emphatic win by Savethelastdance in the Chester Oaks on 10th May, the horse went to clear favourite to land the Group 1 due to the 22 length win and the power of the horse coming down the back straight to win with ease and looking like the horse had more to give.
The Chester Oaks is one of the key trials for this race and with the sheer power the horse showed to pull away from her rivals, the bookies have Savethelastdance as a short priced favourite.
With the combination of Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore, there is no better duo who are capable of cruising to a Group 1 win, so another reason why this horse is well fancied to go on and win the race.
There is a fairytale story in waiting if savethelastdance doesn’t win and that is the 2nd favourite Soul Sister landing the prize, who will be ridden by Frankie Dettori in his last Oaks ride. Currently 11/4 with William Hill, Soul Sister won the Musidora Stakes at York in her trial race to put her well in the frame to land the big race this Friday.
Soul Sister, trained by John and Lady Gosden will fancy her chances of upsetting the short price favourite and sending off Frankie Detorri with another Group1 win and to ensure the crowd enjoy his last Oaks ride in style.
Outside the top two in the betting Running Lion, also trained by John and Lady Gosden is a 6/1 shot with William Hill. Ridden by Oisin Murphy, won the Pretty polly trial race at Newmarket in early May and looked like she had more to give so is definitely one to watch.
Savethelastdance | 5/4 William Hill |
Soul Sister | 11/4 William Hill |
Running Lion | 6/1 Bet365 |
Eternal Hope | 14/1 William Hill |
Heartache Tonight | 20/1 Bet365 |
Be Happy | 33/1 Bet365 |
The nature of the win by Savethelastdance can’t go unnoticed and combining the duo of Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore, the 5/4 with William Hill is one to take for the horse to land the Betfred Oaks.
No other horse has shown the pure turn of foot in any of the trials to think they can live with Savethelastdance and the key for Ryan Moore is to know when to push the button on the horse to come down the hill and push clear of her rivals to win the race.
Soul Sister is the likely horse to go close, but our punters.pub pick is Savethelastdance to win the Betfred Oaks.
