Coventry Stakes – Royal Ascot – Tuesday 20th June
The Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot is going to be as competitive as ever this year. The six furlong, Group 2 race, will feature a good field of runners who will be looking to follow last year’s winner Bradell into the winners enclosure.
Looking at the favourite Asadna, trained by George Boughey, won a 6 furlong race at Ripon on 21st May with jockey William Buick on board. The 12 length victory was impressive to make Asadna favourite for this race and the feeling after the run at Ripon is this is a horse to follow.
Second favourite River Tiber is likely to be a shorter price on the day, but Aidan OBrien’s horse has won twice as a two year old and with Ryan Moore on board at Royal Ascot, it’s hard not to think this horse can get the business done and make it a hat-trick of wins.
River Tiber ran well on 21st May at Navan in a well run race and beat Tourist by 2 1/12 lengths to win. Before that River Tiber was successful by 10 lengths at Navan in April and this top due of O’Brien and Moore are likely to be key to this race.
Having been the top trainer of winners in Coventry Stakes, Aidan O’Brien will be confident that with Ryan Moore on board, that River Tiber will be able to make it another win and more Royal Ascot glory.
Aidan O’Briens 2nd entry in this race is Unquestionable. The horse opened up as a 2 year old over 5 furlongs finishing 3rd, but was upped in trip to 6 furlongs at The Curragh in May and, also ridden by Ryan Moore, Unquestionable won by 4 ½ lengths on good ground.
The final horse to mention is American Rascal, which will be heading over from America and trained by Wesley Ward. American Rascal won a 4 ½ furlong race over in Keeneland by 10 ½ lengths with ease and will look to step up in trip and compete with a the European horses in what is sure to be a competitive race.

Aidan O’Brien has trained the most winners in this race and with a superb record of 2 year olds performing well at this meeting, for punters,pub our best bet for this race is River Tiber at 3/1 with Betfred.
Two faultless displays so far over in Ireland, River Tiber can head to Royal Ascot to make it a hat-trick of wins and one to follow in the 6 furlong category. Ryan Moore will be on board which makes this horse even more likely to get to the finishing line first, however, all the horses lining up for this race are very lightly races 2 year olds, so this will be the first time they have ridden at Royal Ascot and with the ground likely to be good, given the lack of rain, it may well suit some better than others.
Unquestionable can run well at a big price and if American Rascal is suited to the track, then we could see an American winner of this race.
However, Punters.pub can’t look past River Tiber to land this 6 furlong race on the opening day of Royal Ascot 2023.
